Profile of the CEO

Chief Executive Officer

The current Chief Executive Officer for the Free State Gambling Board and Liquor Authority is Ms Mokone Nthongoa. A Psychologist by profession, Ms Nthongoa holds a number of qualifications from various Universities in South Africa and Internationally. She holds a BA Degree in Social Work from the University of the North (now known as the University of Limpopo). Additionally, she completed a BA Honours degree in Psychology from the University of Fort Hare. Ms Nthongoa gained an international academic exposure by acquiring a Masters’ Degree in Social Science  from University of Durham, England. Upon returning to the country, she completed an Internship in Psychology at the Wits University. She gained an insight into management by enrolling with the University of Cape Town, Graduate School of Business where she was educated in Executive Human Resource Management.

Ms Nthongoa has vast experience in Senior Management in various disciplines across various settings, both in Private Sector and in Government, where she managed Strategic Projects. She worked for Telkom SA as a Senior Manager for Human Resource. She then joined the National Department of Public Works in the Human Resource Development Division. Ms Nthongoa then relocated to the Free State Province where she served as Head of the Programme Management Unit (PMU), at the Department of Agriculture. From this position, she went back to Pretoria to join the Small Enterprise Development Agency (Seda) as Senior Manager responsible for Strategy and Organisational Performance.

Ms Nthongoa also has extensive experience in Counselling, Assessment, Training, Human Resource Management, Programme Management, Strategy Development as well as Organisational Performance Monitoring.  Her experience in training covers the design and facilitation of programmes for NGOs, CBOs, and Educational institutions in various areas such as change management, counselling and leadership training.   

During her stay at the Free State Department of Agriculture, Ms Nthongoa fell in love with the Free State Province in so much that she returned as CEO of  Phakisa Major Sport within the boundaries of Matjhabeng Local Municipality, Lejweleputswa District. She later joined the Free State Department of Sports, Arts and Culture  as Head of the Department (HOD) and served in the same capacity when she directed her experience and capacity to the Free State Department of Public Works and Rural Development.  Prior to her current position as CEO of Free State Gambling Board and Liquor Authority, Ms Nthongoa served as  Regional General Manager for the Independent Development Trust (IDT) in the Free State Province.
